United Nations, May 16, 2025 — The Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations and the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York jointly organized a grand ceremony on the occasion of Thanksgiving Day, paying tribute to the unparalleled sacrifices and courage of the Pakistan Armed Forces in defending the motherland.
Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated that the entire nation takes pride in the bravery and valor of its armed forces. He emphasized that Pakistan has successfully thwarted India’s dangerous ambitions, shattering its dream of establishing regional hegemony.
“The entire nation—from the political leadership to the people—stood firmly with its armed forces against Indian aggression. We owe our freedom to the blood of our martyrs,” he declared.
Ambassador Asim reiterated that Pakistan’s stance is rooted in the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law, including the non-use of force, peaceful resolution of disputes, the right to self-determination, and opposition to territorial acquisition through coercion.
He noted that while India escalated tensions and violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Pakistan, as a responsible state, exercised maximum restraint—a response lauded at the international level.
Ambassador Asim warned that the provocative statements of Indian leadership continue to threaten regional peace and stability. He affirmed that Pakistan remains fully prepared to defend its independence and territorial integrity against any future aggression.
In his address, Consul General Aamir Ahmed Atuzai highlighted Pakistan’s measured, strategic, and restrained response to India’s baseless and unprovoked attack. He stated that while India recklessly escalated military tensions, Pakistan’s reaction was precise, proportionate, and in compliance with international norms.
The Consul General emphasized that lasting peace in South Asia hinges on justice in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the resolution of disputes in accordance with UN resolutions.
“Today, we express our deepest gratitude to our armed forces, national leadership, and especially the people of Pakistan, whose unity and resolve are the true guarantors of our freedom and sovereignty,” he said.
The ceremony commenced with Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed hoisting the national flag as the anthem played.
Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Usman Jadoon, along with officers and staff of the Mission and Consulate, attended the event.
