Gilgit: The Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) has released a detailed report on the damages caused by recent floods across the region. According to official data, the calamity has claimed nine lives, damaged 533 houses, destroyed 26 bridges, and washed away 49 water channels.
So far, 49 flood-related incidents have been reported in Gilgit-Baltistan, causing widespread destruction. The disasters have left nine people dead and five injured. Among the affected houses, 342 were completely destroyed, while 191 suffered partial damage.
The floods also damaged 15 livestock farms and 20 vehicles, severely disrupting transportation and local infrastructure.
District-Wise Breakdown:
- Diamer: The worst-hit district, with 8 sq. km affected, eight fatalities, one injured, and 301 houses damaged.
- Astore: One fatality reported.
- Shigar: A key bridge swept away.
- Ghanche: 61 houses damaged, three injured.
- Skardu: 72 houses affected.
- Gilgit: 47 houses damaged.
- Nagar: Six houses impacted.
- Ghizer: 26 houses affected.
- Kharmang: Four houses damaged.
- Hunza: No losses reported.
GBDMA officials stated that damage assessment is ongoing, and rescue operations have been intensified. Emergency teams are actively providing relief to affected communities.
