Mumbai: May 12, 2025- Indian opposition leader and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has issued a stark warning to the Modi government, advising against further military confrontations with Pakistan. In a recent TV interview, Tharoor emphasised Pakistan’s military capabilities, stating, “Pakistan has the most advanced weapons, and the Modi government should not start any more adventures.” His remarks come amid escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Modi Government’s Aggression Backfires as Pakistan Delivers Crushing Response
Tharoor acknowledged the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, calling it a positive step. However, he stressed that restoring full diplomatic ties would take time. The Congress leader also advocated for improved people-to-people contact, including visa relaxations and family reunifications for divided families across the border.
Modi Government Urged to Pursue Peace, Restore Cross-Border Ties
The warning follows recent clashes where Pakistan’s armed forces demonstrated their military prowess. After Indian aggression, Pakistan retaliated forcefully, shooting down five Indian warplanes—including three advanced Rafale jets—and crippling India’s defense systems. The Modi government initially downplayed losses but has since indirectly admitted the downing of its prized Rafale aircraft, marking a significant embarrassment for India’s defence establishment.
As tensions simmer, Tharoor’s statements underscore the risks of further escalation, urging the Modi government to rethink its strategy toward Pakistan.
