Vice President of the National Peace Council of Pakistan (Punjab), Sheikh Abdul Waheed, stated that the Palestinian people must have the full right to establish their own free and independent state and to determine their political future. He emphasized that the United Nations and the International Court of Justice must play an active role in securing the rights of the Palestinian people. The global public’s protests in support of Palestinian rights clearly demonstrate that they view the Israeli occupation as an act of aggression against peace.
In an important statement, Sheikh Abdul Waheed expressed concern over Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s video message in which he stated that Israel “absolutely does not” agree to the establishment of a Palestinian state. He said this statement is extremely alarming. People across the world are protesting in support of Palestinian rights. Our Palestinian brothers, sisters, and children are in urgent need of our support at this critical time.
Sheikh Abdul Waheed further noted that the UN General Assembly, the Security Council, and the Human Rights Council have reaffirmed this right for the Palestinian people on multiple occasions. The International Court of Justice has also upheld this right. Despite this, certain global powers continue to deny the Palestinians their legitimate rights. He added that there are already concerns being raised about some of the points circulating in the current agreement. He urged international institutions to play their role in helping the Palestinian people achieve a free and independent state, as their demands are completely just and legitimate.
