Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Commit to Regional Peace

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a cordial telephone conversation with H.E. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This warm dialogue highlights the ongoing efforts to foster peace and stability in South Asia amidst complex geopolitical challenges.
During their discussion, PM Sharif extended his regards to Supreme Leader Ayatullah Khamenei and expressed gratitude for Iran’s proactive diplomatic endeavors aimed at easing regional tensions. He appreciated President Pezeshkian’s recent outreach, including the visit of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during a critical phase.
Condemning the recent unprovoked attacks by India that resulted in tragic civilian casualties, including women and children, PM Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and responsible defense. He emphasized that Pakistan’s Armed Forces have responded with measured force, ensuring the country’s sovereignty remains intact.
The Prime Minister raised concerns over India’s attempts to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, labeling it unlawful and crucial for the survival of 240 million Pakistanis. He reiterated that the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute must be resolved in accordance with UN resolutions to ensure lasting peace in the region.
In response, President Pezeshkian expressed deep condolences for the loss of innocent lives and affirmed support for Pakistan’s peace initiatives. The two leaders discussed enhancing bilateral relations, focusing on trade, security, and connectivity.
The Iranian President extended an invitation to PM Sharif for an official visit to Tehran, which was graciously accepted, paving the way for stronger cooperation between the two nations.
