The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chapter in Canada is experiencing escalating internal strife, as divisions among its leadership have fostered disillusionment among ideologically committed members. While many retain an emotional allegiance to party founder Imran Khan, a culture of fragmentation and preferential treatment—allegedly influenced by establishment interests—has provoked profound concern within the overseas membership.
The historic protest in Mississauga following Imran Khan’s arrest remains a source of pride and unity for Canadian PTI supporters. However, subsequent internal rivalries have fractured the party’s diaspora base. Recent events, including clashing protests held simultaneously in the same city demanding Khan’s release, underscore the deepening rift.

The sudden dissolution of PTI Canada’s formal structure and its replacement by a protest committee has further fueled speculation and confusion. Accounts of verbal abuse and physical confrontations during internal meetings have cultivated a toxic environment, driving families and moderate voices away from active participation.
Zafar Iqbal, a longstanding and dedicated member, acknowledged mounting discontent: “Many of us harbor reservations regarding the current leadership, yet our bond with Imran Khan sustains our commitment to the cause.”
When questioned about past derogatory remarks directed at him by Sajid Burki, Iqbal confirmed subsequent reconciliation: “An apology was extended and accepted. I bear no personal grievances now,” he stated, adding, “Our focus remains unwavering support for Imran Khan.”
Despite internal fractures, Iqbal’s faction announced a protest for Khan’s release on August 8—directly conflicting with the protest committee’s scheduled demonstration on August 5, highlighting PTI Canada’s persistent disunity.
Iqbal emphasized that highly educated professionals—physicians, engineers, and others—across Canada maintain steadfast dedication. “We are initiating a nationwide signature campaign demanding Imran Khan’s freedom and will collaborate with Members of Parliament to raise this issue in Canada’s legislature,” he declared.
As PTI Canada grapples with its divisions, loyalty to Imran Khan endures as its sole unifying force—though the durability of this allegiance remains uncertain.
