Gen Asim Munir Promoted to Field Marshal

Islamabad: May 20 2025– In a significant meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the federal cabinet made important decisions regarding military leadership in Pakistan. The cabinet unanimously approved the promotion of General Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-e-Imtiaz Military) to the rank of Field Marshal.

General Asim Munir has been recognized for his exemplary strategic leadership during Operation Banyan Marsus, which played a crucial role in defeating enemy forces. The meeting highlighted his contributions as instrumental to the Pakistan Army’s success.

Additionally, the federal cabinet decided to extend the services of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Babar Sidhu beyond the end of his current term.

To honor the sacrifices made during Operation Banyan Marsus, it was declared that high government awards would be bestowed upon those who rendered valuable services in the operation, as well as on the ghaziyan (surviving heroes) and martyrs of both Operation Banyan Marsus and the Pakistan Army.

The cabinet expressed that under the unparalleled leadership of the Army Chief, Pakistan achieved a historic victory in the ongoing war for truth. General Asim Munir is credited with leading the Pakistan Army with remarkable courage and determination, fully coordinating the war strategy and efforts of the armed forces.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also met with the President to discuss and gain his confidence regarding these pivotal decisions. It is noteworthy that General Asim Munir becomes only the second individual in Pakistan’s history to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal, following President General Ayub Khan, who was conferred the title in 1959.

This meeting marks a significant step in acknowledging the efforts and sacrifices made by the military in securing the nation’s safety and stability.
