Islamabad, April 5: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced an open call for experimental proposals from scientists, researchers, and students to participate in the country’s first-ever human space mission. This landmark initiative will see a Pakistani astronaut travel to the Chinese Space Station (CSS) by late 2026, marking a pivotal milestone in Pakistan’s space exploration journey.
During a press briefing, a SUPARCO spokesperson confirmed that the mission aims to leverage the unique conditions of space—including microgravity, extreme temperatures, and cosmic radiation—to conduct groundbreaking research. The CSS, orbiting Earth at an altitude of 380 kilometers with an orbital speed of 7.7 kilometers per second, completes one full revolution around the planet every 92 minutes. This environment offers unprecedented opportunities for experiments in fields such as space biology, biotechnology, fluid dynamics, materials science, and astrophysics.
