MISSISSAUGA, – Arif Mehdi Hassan, son of the late ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan, known as the ‘Shahenshah-e-Ghazal’ (Emperor of Ghazal), declared his father’s unparalleled status in the world of music during a media briefing for the ‘Sham-e-Ghazal’ event.
“In the world of ghazal singing, Mehdi Hassan was one, is one, and will remain the one and only,” stated Arif Mehdi Hassan. He described the unique impact of his father’s voice, saying that listening to Mehdi Hassan transports the listener “to another world,” attributing this transcendent experience to the “unique purity” found in his voice. Arif shared these sentiments and personal memories of his father with attendees at the briefing held ahead of the Sham-e-Ghazal night in Mississauga.
