Tight Security Measures in Place for Ashura Processions Across Skardu District

Skardu, July 6 — In preparation for the observance of Youm-e-Ashura, the Skardu Police have implemented comprehensive security arrangements to ensure the safety of mourners and the smooth conduct of processions throughout the district.

A total of 718 police personnel have been deployed across Skardu District to safeguard 79 Ashura mourning processions. Additionally, 110 personnel from the Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, including four platoons, will assist the police in maintaining law and order during the religious gatherings.

The district has been strategically divided into eight security sectors, each overseen by senior officers including the DSP Headquarters, SDPOs, and SHOs. Security monitoring is being conducted through a centralized CCTV control room, with special control centers also established at Qaltu Gah Sharif and Ali Plaza to enhance coordination and response.

Processions will be held in various sub-divisions as follows:

  • Skardu Sub-Division: 27 processions
  • Gamba: 34 processions
  • Rundu: 18 processions

Earlier reports also indicated that 16 processions would take place in Skardu Sub-Division, 5 in Gamba, 5 in Rundu, and 3 in Kachora, reflecting the evolving nature of the event schedule.

Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement and remain vigilant. The security plan underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and respectful environment for the commemoration of the sacrifices made in Karbala.
