Islamabad — On Wednesday afternoon, dark clouds engulfed the capital, followed by powerful winds and torrential rain that severely disrupted daily routines. While the storm brought relief from the intense heat, it also caused significant damage, uprooting trees, billboards, and solar panels, leading to traffic congestion and vehicle damage. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
Before the rain, thick clouds covered the sky, creating an eerie nighttime effect during the day. The sun was completely obscured in several areas, forcing residents to rely on artificial lighting.
The storm lasted for an hour, with strong winds toppling trees, damaging solar panels, and tearing down advertising billboards. Major areas affected include Aabpara, Blue Area, F-7, F-11, and G-10, where fallen trees blocked roads, causing severe traffic disruptions. Some rooftops with solar panels were also damaged.
The extreme weather led to power outages across the city, but electricity department teams have begun restoration efforts.
According to the Meteorological Department, this pattern of rain and strong winds may continue for the next two to three days. Authorities have advised residents to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.
The Disaster Management Authority (DMA) and other relevant departments have launched emergency relief operations, working to clear fallen trees and restore traffic flow.
Citizens are urged to remain cautious and contact authorities if needed. Stay safe and stay informed!
