The Iftar Dinner attracted leading figures and representatives from various Pakistani-American organizations across the New York area. Also present were Tauqeer ul Haq (Chairman of APAC), Farooq Mirza (Chairman of Fourth Pillar), respected Islamic scholar Maulana Tasawwur Gilani, Attique Qadri the president of the PACOLI and many other dignitaries. Molana Tasaoor Gilani said that first of all, let me submit with utmost respect: In this Country, the Constitution and the law grant full permission and freedom for every individual and community to perform their religious rites, rituals, and matters freely — but strictly in accordance with their own School of Thought (mazhab / fiqh).
However, under no circumstances is it permissible — neither according to any principle of faith, nor Shariah, nor the religion of Islam, nor the laws of this country, nor its Constitution — for anyone to use deception by labeling their activities or mission with the name or identity of another religion or another School of Thought, and then proceed to promote or expand their own agenda.
There are many detailed explanations of this matter in the light of the Qur’an and Hadith. It is a very extensive discussion. However, while fully respecting and abiding by the laws and Constitution of this country, I believe that everyone must clearly define and stay within their own boundaries and limits.
