According to sources, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, has relinquished his post and returned to Islamabad.

Dr. Faisal assumed the role in August 2023 and, from his very first day, worked to enhance Pakistan’s standing. He also made significant efforts to reduce divisions and political tensions within the community.

Sources have confirmed that Tipu Usman has been nominated as his successor. He is currently serving as Chief of Protocol in the Foreign Service. Formal approval for his appointment has already been sent to British authorities, and he is expected to assume his responsibilities soon.

Dr. Faisal is a seasoned diplomat who oversaw Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement in the UK during a period marked by both cooperation and challenges, particularly concerning political matters and the overseas Pakistani community. He previously served as the spokesperson for the Foreign Office and, before his posting to the UK, as Pakistan’s ambassador to Germany.

He gained prominence during last year’s brief India-Pakistan conflict, where he appeared on BBC, Sky News, and other international channels, effectively presenting Pakistan’s position and earning widespread praise. He also articulated Pakistan’s stance strongly in global media during tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

Dr. Faisal built a strong rapport with the Pakistani community in the UK. People were eager to meet him, and he was frequently invited as a chief guest at community events. He took a personal interest in community issues and consistently represented Pakistan with commitment and dedication.

His sudden departure has left the Pakistani community in the UK in a state of sadness and uncertainty. Community members say that his tenure was expected to continue until August 2026, and farewell events were being planned across various cities to honor him with awards and tributes.

However, his unexpected return has prompted expressions of deep regret and dissatisfaction with the government’s decision among overseas Pakistanis in the UK.
