NEW YORK- A six-member parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, known as the Pakistani Parliamentary Delegation, headed by Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, will participate in the Annual Parliamentary Hearing at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The two-day event, scheduled for February 12-13, will feature discussions on key topics including “The UN at 80: Renewing trust and purpose through cooperation and partnership,” “Translating global commitments into national realities,” “Protecting democracy from within: Parliamentary safeguards and responsibilities amid democratic challenges,” and “Financing and future-proofing the United Nations.”
On the sidelines of the Hearing, Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with the President of the UN General Assembly and the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Dr. Tulia Ackson.
The delegation comprises Senator Farooq H. Naek, Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir, Senator Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, Senator Saleem Mandviwala, and National Assembly member Malik Muhammad Ahmad Amir Dogar.
Organized jointly by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations, the 2026 Annual Parliamentary Hearing serves as a major global platform that brings together parliamentarians, senior UN officials, diplomats, experts, and civil society leaders.
This year’s session, themed “Parliaments and the United Nations: Better together, delivering for the people,” aims to strengthen multilateral cooperation, advance peace and sustainable development, bolster democratic governance, and support the implementation of the UN’s Pact for the Future and ongoing reform initiatives.
The Annual Hearing continues a decades-long tradition mandated by the UN General Assembly, highlighting the increasingly vital role of parliamentary diplomacy in crafting inclusive and people-centered responses to global challenges.
