A historic gathering of British-Pakistani mayors, deputy mayors, councillors, and local representatives was held at the Pakistan High Commission in London. Hundreds attended this unprecedented political assembly—something never witnessed before in such numbers. This remarkable turnout was due to the personal efforts and vision of Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Dr. Muhammad Faisal.
By Dr. Faisal’s special invitation, over 250 British public representatives of Pakistani origin from across the UK participated in this unique event.
The special ceremony hosted at the Pakistan High Commission featured representation from various local political parties throughout the UK—from Greater London to the Midlands, Manchester, Bradford, Birmingham, and Glasgow.
Speakers included Dr. Muhammad Faisal, Liaqat Ali MBE, Chairman of the UK-Pakistan Kashmiri Councillors Forum, Sheriff of Nottingham Zafran Nawaz Khan, and various borough councillors including Rukhsana Fiaz, Majid Mahmood, Nizam Azam, Ishrat Shah, Nighat Khan, Tariq Dar, and others who shared their views.
Chairman of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation, Syed Qamar Raza, also made a special appearance.
The elected representatives praised the efforts of High Commissioner Dr. Faisal and the High Commission staff in uniting community leadership and commended their outstanding initiative.
The councillors pledged their full support for promoting economic, trade, educational, and social ties between Pakistan and the UK.
Speakers presented suggestions for further energizing the Pakistani community in Britain. Dr. Muhammad Faisal, an experienced diplomat, has not only united the community but also fostered a spirit of love and unity that transcends politics. People now sit together and form friendships beyond party lines.
He has engaged the community to such an extent that the focus has shifted from politics to patriotism. There is now increased interest in investing in Pakistan and contributing more meaningfully. In his address, Dr. Faisal emphasized:
“It is every Pakistani’s duty to first and foremost strengthen and love their country and its institutions.”
He described British-Pakistanis as “cultural ambassadors” who embody values of hard work, dedication, and resilience. These representatives are strengthening democracy in the UK, promoting cultural diversity, and acting as bridges between the UK and Pakistan.
“I, along with the entire Pakistani nation, am proud of you,” he said.
“Pakistan values and salutes you because you speak the language of your homeland, represent it, and proudly carry its name.”
He added that the positive image these individuals portray helps enhance Pakistan’s reputation, drawing the attention of other communities as well.
“While the High Commission hosts many events, today’s gathering feels special—the scent of Pakistan is in the air,” said Dr. Faisal.
“You are the true heroes whose hearts beat for Pakistan even as you work and serve in the UK.”
He emphasized that the strength of the Pakistani diaspora lies in its dignity, unity, and service.
“Pakistan’s progress is tied to your success,” he stated.
He acknowledged that some negative elements try to tarnish the image of the Pakistani community abroad, but stressed unity in countering such narratives and defending Pakistan’s honor.
Dr. Faisal urged the councillors to highlight the achievements of British-Pakistanis in education, business, healthcare, and public service, especially those of women and youth. He called upon British-Pakistani youth to play an active role in promoting Pakistan’s cultural heritage and strengthening its economy.
The High Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to serving the Pakistani community through consular services and strengthening bilateral relations.
He encouraged the British-Pakistani community to present Pakistan as a sovereign, resilient, and progressive nation on the global stage.
Participants in the event praised Dr. Faisal’s national and community-oriented work, calling him a unique personality who has opened his doors to the community and supported them at every level. They said Pakistan’s dignity has been uplifted, Pakistan has gained positive attention in British media, and community issues have begun to be addressed on a priority basis.
The councillors and attendees called on the Government of Pakistan to award Dr. Muhammad Faisal a Presidential Award for his extraordinary national and diplomatic services.
