Pakistan’s Army Chief Visits US, Attends CENTCOM Ceremonies, Engages Leadership & Diaspora

RAWALPINDI / WASHINGTON D.C., August 10, 2025- Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, is currently on an official visit to the United States, engaging in high-level diplomatic and military discussions.

The visit included a significant stop in Tampa, Florida, where COAS Munir attended the Retirement Ceremony of General Michael E. Kurilla, the outgoing Commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). He also witnessed the Change of Command Ceremony marking the assumption of command by Admiral Brad Cooper.

Addressing the ceremonies, Field Marshal Munir commended General Kurilla’s “exemplary leadership” and his “invaluable contributions” towards strengthening military-to-military cooperation between Pakistan and the United States. He extended his best wishes to Admiral Cooper, expressing confidence that the collaborative efforts between the two nations would continue effectively to address shared regional security challenges.

During his time in Washington D.C., COAS Munir held a meeting with General Dan Caine, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff. The discussions focused on matters of “mutual professional interest,” reflecting the ongoing defense relationship between the two countries. Field Marshal Munir formally invited General Caine to visit Pakistan at a future date. On the sidelines of his engagements, the COAS also interacted with Chiefs of Defence from other friendly nations.

Extending his outreach beyond official circles, COAS Munir participated in an interactive session with members of the Pakistani diaspora. He urged the community to remain confident in Pakistan’s “bright future” and to play an active role in attracting foreign investment to support the nation’s economy. The diaspora members reaffirmed their strong commitment to supporting Pakistan’s progress and development.

The visit underscores the importance of the Pakistan-US bilateral relationship, particularly in the realm of defense and security cooperation, while also highlighting efforts to leverage the Pakistani diaspora for national development.
