Since its inception, Pakistan has stood as a symbol of peace in the world. In every major regional crisis, the nation has offered sacrifices for the sake of others. During the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, when oppression and destruction engulfed the Afghan people, Pakistan not only sheltered its Afghan brothers but also helped prevent a global humanitarian catastrophe. Millions of refugees were given safety and shelter inside Pakistan, and despite immense difficulties, the country safeguarded world peace. This sacrifice remains unparalleled in regional history.
After the tragic events of 9/11, the world was pushed into a new era of crisis. Every nation faced grave concerns for its security, and global powers became determined to root out terrorist organizations. At this critical juncture, Pakistan once again became the focus of the world. The United States, the biggest victim of the 9/11 attacks, directly approached Pakistan’s then-President, General Pervez Musharraf, seeking assistance. Pakistan decided to stand with the world for peace, providing military and air resources, including air bases, to the coalition. For nearly two decades, Pakistan fought shoulder to shoulder with allied forces to eliminate terrorism.
In the process, Pakistan itself became the prime target of terrorism. Our security forces, civilians, educational institutions, and even places of worship came under attack. The nation paid the ultimate price: thousands of soldiers and countless innocent citizens were martyred, and national infrastructure suffered severe destruction. Yet, Pakistan remained steadfast in its commitment to world peace, particularly in supporting the United States. No other country sacrificed as much in this global fight against terror as Pakistan did.
During General Musharraf’s era, Pakistan’s economy remained relatively stable. The dollar stood at around 60 rupees, and the country was nearly free of foreign debt. Unfortunately, subsequent governments, driven by political motives and unnecessary projects, resorted to heavy borrowing from the IMF and other financial institutions. These loans weakened Pakistan’s economy and ignored the will of its people. From 2008 onward, successive democratic governments failed to lift the nation out of its financial and economic crises, proving that existing political models are ineffective in guiding the country toward real progress.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s elite have parked nearly 300 billion dollars abroad. If this wealth were brought back, Pakistan would not need to rely on foreign loans. It is imperative that international powers treat Pakistan as a true ally, recognizing that no nation has sacrificed more for global peace than Pakistan.
In today’s world, where major powers like the United States, China, and Russia compete for influence in the region, Pakistan’s importance has grown significantly. China stands as Pakistan’s strongest strategic partner, while the U.S. and Europe acknowledge Pakistan’s role and sacrifices. Russia too seeks to strengthen its ties with Pakistan. If Pakistan can maintain its national unity, no global power will be able to overlook its strategic significance, and the country will be recognized as an essential partner in regional and global stability.
It must also be remembered that those who conspire against Pakistan—whether through militant means or political maneuvering—are enemies of the state. Such elements must be dealt with firmly and decisively under the rule of law. Only by holding these traitors accountable can Pakistan ensure its sovereignty, security, and survival.
Now, more than ever, Pakistan needs national unity. Political and personal differences must be set aside, and the nation must stand shoulder to shoulder with its armed forces and security institutions—the true guardians of our homeland. We must take pride in our heroes and never allow their appointments or extensions to be made controversial, as doing so only strengthens the enemies’ agenda.
The people of Pakistan must understand that our survival and progress lie in unity. If we, as one nation, commit to bringing back our wealth, reforming our economy, and standing by our armed forces, no power on earth can weaken Pakistan.
