Pakistani American Prosecutor Sheharyar Ali Launches Groundbreaking Campaign for Nassau County Legislature.

MINEOLA, NY – In a significant development for local politics, Sheharyar Ali, a Pakistani Muslim American and seasoned prosecutor, has officially entered the race for the Nassau County Legislature. Running as a Republican and Conservative candidate for District 14 in the 2025 election, Ali is building a compelling campaign centered on the core issues of public safety, fiscal responsibility, and preserving the community’s suburban character.

Ali’s candidacy is historic, marked by a wave of early and unified support. In a powerful show of backing, the Pakistan American Community has jointly endorsed him, declaring him the “best favorable candidate” in recent elections. This marks the first time the community has collectively thrown its support behind a single candidate, a testament to Ali’s deep roots and the respect earned by his family. His father, Ch Akram, is noted for his own longstanding service within Nassau County, laying a foundation of community trust that his son now builds upon.

Professionally, Ali presents himself as a dedicated law-and-order candidate. His career has been defined by his work in the courtroom. Serving as a Felony Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn, he prosecuted some of the most violent criminals in the system, handling cases involving attempted murder, gun possession, robbery, and assault. He has worked to put dangerous criminals behind bars and protect victims.

“Having seen the consequences of soft-on-crime policies firsthand, I am committed to keeping them out of Nassau County,” Ali stated, drawing a clear contrast with policies he believes have negatively impacted New York City.

His commitment to public safety has already earned him a major endorsement from the Nassau County Detective’s Association, solidifying his credibility on law enforcement issues. Currently, as a Deputy Bureau Chief in the Nassau County Attorney’s Office, he continues his fight for law and order, proudly defending police officers in court. On the campaign trail, he has pledged to expand the county’s “POP” Units, which foster collaboration between police officers and residents to address local crime and quality-of-life concerns. He also vows to take a firm stand against hate crimes, ensuring every resident feels safe.

Beyond public safety, Ali is focusing on the economic concerns of families and seniors. He has committed to fighting for a freeze on property taxes, which he describes as a “crushing weight.” He promises to rein in wasteful spending and demand fiscal responsibility from local government. Furthermore, he positions himself as a bulwark against Governor Kathy Hochul’s radical high-density housing mandates, arguing they threaten the very suburban character and quality of life that makes Nassau County desirable.

“As a father of young children, I am running for Nassau County Legislature because I want to ensure all families can raise their children in safe, affordable communities,” Ali said. “My commitment to freezing property taxes, supporting law enforcement, and preserving our suburbs reflects my deep concern for my children’s future and the future of all Nassau families.”

Ali’s community involvement extends beyond his professional duties. During the nationwide baby formula shortage, he and his wife, Hina Ghani, were moved to action by their own struggles as parents of a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old. They launched a fundraiser that raised thousands of dollars, donating essential baby formula to local shelters housing infants. Their efforts gained national attention, showcasing a personal commitment to supporting families in times of crisis.

With his strong record as a prosecutor, his deep community ties, and a clear platform focused on safety and affordability, Sheharyar Ali is positioning himself as a formidable candidate ready to bring common-sense leadership to the Nassau County Legislature.
