In a heartfelt gathering amid cold weather on December 16, 2025, members of the South Asian American community in Valley Stream came together to celebrate recent electoral successes, honor community leader and recent candidate Sheryar Ali and express strong support for Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman following his re-election in November 2025.
The event highlighted themes of friendship, perseverance in politics, and enduring community bonds, even in the face of electoral setbacks. Speakers praised Sheryar Ali’s recent campaign for public office — likely a New York State Assembly seat representing areas including Valley Stream, Elmont, and Lynbrook — describing it as one of the hardest-fought efforts they had witnessed.

A close associate, said:
“I think the chairman said it all. Laura said it all. But there’s one thing that I would like to add. I have met so many new friends in the last four years due to Ali’s race. I got to become very, very close to his dad, and I can honestly say Sheryar is my second son… You take some lumps in this business. You just got to get up, dust yourself off…I am so proud of you… You’re going to be a star. You are a star.”
Another speaker, likely from the Lynbrook Republican community, remarked:
“I have to tell you, I have never wanted to win an election more than I wanted to win Sher Ali’s race… Because I never met a person who worked harder for it and connected with every single person that he met… I know he would have been a fantastic representative for the people of Valley Stream and Lynbrook… On behalf of the Lynbrook community and the Lynbrook Republican Club, I want to thank all of you for everything that you did for this man.”

Mayor Tim Sullivan of Malverne was invited to speak and acknowledged for his support, though his full remarks were brief in the transcript.
A subsequent speaker emphasized success beyond the ballot:
“Win, lose, or draw, look at the crowd that you’ve assembled here… These are family and friends, and that’s what matters… Congratulations, job well done, my friend.”
Another speaker reflected on the campaign’s lasting impact:
“The relationships and the bridges that we built from this campaign were truly second to none. I truly look at all of you in this room as family… It’s upsetting because I know there is no better person for the job than Ali… But the most important thing that I took away from this entire election was the relationships that we all built together.”

A prominent figure, drawing on historical inspiration, added:
“No one can say anything else how proud they are of you and your family… Any candidate who decided to run for any office, the day they decided to run for a public office, they are a winner… You are a winner because these people believe in you… There is no better chairman or a better friend [referring to Bruce Blakeman]… Thank God we have people like Sheryar Ali… You are a winner in my books. God bless you.”
The event culminated with a speech from Sheryar Ali’s father, who expressed deep gratitude despite the chilly weather:
“Thank you very much. Coming to this very, very cold weather, I really appreciate it… 22-23 years ago, one of my good friends introduced me to the Chairman [Bruce Blakeman]. And since that time, he treats me like a son… Thank you very much, Chairman.”

He thanked various leaders and supporters, including Dr. Iqbal for financial contributions, community members from Valley Stream, and organizers planning a major event for Blakeman’s future endeavors. He also acknowledged women’s wing leader Sister Naheed and others for their tireless work.
Ali’s father pledged ongoing loyalty: “Whatever the Republican Party needs him [Blakeman], right there. But we never gonna leave you all — we always with you in Valley Stream, Elmont, anywhere.”
The gathering underscored the South Asian community’s growing role in Nassau County politics, bridging cultural ties with broader Republican leadership as Blakeman prepares for potential higher office following his strong re-election victory. Attendees viewed the event as a celebration of resilience, family, and future collaboration.
